So presumably they've been waiting for the new CEO before making any appointments. The fact that it took them 13 months to get someone doesn't bode well for replacing Cobb. . . . . and the BAD news?

Chris Thomas has just put down an interesting Written Question: Whether the Isle of Man Civil Aviation Administration has the Airport a) on notice and b) under special attention; what progress has been made against the airport's regulatory action plan; what regulatory requirements there are for the Airport Director role; and if he will make a statement. as has Claire Christian: Further to the answers he gave to Question 13 in Tynwald on 16th April 2024 how many trained Air Traffic Controllers there were at that time; how many were in training; how many are currently trained and in training; when the target number of 18 Air Traffic Controllers will be achieved; what regulatory breaks are rostered; and when Airport closures due to air traffic control issues will cease. Seems to be a reduction in flights offered to us next summer - only 1 Liverpool rotation on a Monday & Friday. No Tuesday or Saturday flights to LPL or MAN .. add Wednesday into that from Septemeber. No Belfast flight loaded at all. The full schedule hasn't been released yet
dreamon
This morning at 10:41 a Loganair pilot on the MAN flight asked for start up and was refused. This, despite the fact that the ridiculous 'break' required by ATC isn't until 11:00 ... but no traffic is allowed to take off/land 15 mins beforehand! As a result, the flight and passengers were delayed until 11:37 even though the call for start up was actually 4 mins before the cut off time. How much longer are airlines going to put up with this expensive nonsense. 2

The ridiculous break as you call it is a mandatory requirement but I assume you want the law broken to suit you!!

The ridiculousness of it is that it's happening in the first place. The fact we need to have it without suitable cover in place is farcical. The management are totally to blame for the lack of recruitment and forward planning in the first place. How much longer is this going to go on for ? 2

Presumably the 15 minutes period is a buffer so that everything has gone by the time the break starts. So if the break starts at 11 the Loganair would have had plenty of time to taxi and leave before 11am. If it had pushed back at 10.41 it would have been most of the way to Manchester by 11am. The decision to not let the Loganair push back does seem silly unless there was something else going on, e.g. slot restrictions at Manchester.

More closely enforced probably, also the global shortage of ATCs is an issue for everyone but some people seem to think it can be resolved for IOM easily. The personal abuse of ATCs on social media for taking breaks for cups of tea, hats etc will more likely cause more shortages. Wont be any late opening tonight as easyhave cancelled Gatwick flight due to technical issues although various posts say it’s due to chaos at Gatwick with numerous flights delayed etc.
