So presumably know about AF. You overstated the amount by 30%. As a Social Security Appeal Tribunal Chair, for over 25 years, I am pretty sure he will have to repay. That’s because, apart from representing dozens of claimants over 40 years, I’ve also made dozens of repayment orders. My understanding is that the exact amount of overpayment is in dispute and will be settled and the repayment order made at a later date. I think @Kipper99’s points about cost of prison and care are well made. The points you make whilst valid, in this case, and other benefit fraud cases coming before the courts, would a nice sentence of imprisonment coupled with a fine and repayment of the defrauded amount, not send a loud and clear signal, to deter others? I would also say that instead of referring to someone as s ‘Businessman’ they are referred to as a Benefits Cheat. Reputable businesspeople don’t commit benefit fraud……,….. other types of fraud yes!
