Fred the shred
Obviously something was about to come out in the open that would open a can of worms so it was operation shutdown.

Not sure that is the obvious conclusion. But, hey, conspire away.

Two-lane
The aspect I am annoyed about is the lack of reporting. According to the press reports, Scales took the stand in the morning of Thursday and the Deemster shut the case down at 15:00. Presumably the Deemster did that when he became aware that Scales had dismissed his advocate. There is no reporting about what happened in the meantime. This case is not a trivial one about a speeding offence - but, no data. (Manx Radio has a total black-out on the subject. Gef the flying mongoose has had no news since Paul Moulton departed)

People, especially the usual suspects, are obviously too quick to pile into the conspiracy theory angle of everything these days but it feels like there's definitely something especially iffy about this one.

At a guess, the Deemster aborted the case because a new advocate would have to be instructed, advise and decide how to defend the case. That could take a very long time and it would be unreasonable to start with new representation with the same jury who would possibly remember what was previously said. Much better to abort, let new representation advise and start again. Or, if the idea was to continue but self-represent, he thought that was not appropriate in a complex matter. Really don't get the conspiracy.
