If you had to get them out cos it was too long then it is probable it was too long for a mower too, and likely the strimmer was in fact the correct machine for the job.

It should never have got to that stage. I kept well over 100m of public verges outside of my house in immaculate shape. There was simply no excuse beyond poor planning and execution.

Still a 1 man job though, strim it, stick a mulching mower over it, job done.

A mulching mower is only effective on a regular maintenance, haircut/trim basis. It's no good when the grass has been left to last minute jungle proportions. At that stage it just leaves a mess of cut grass that still needs to be collected and tidied up. It's basic area and operational management that's lacking.

There must be time available for it because a number of areas that used to have the grass cut by RTC have not been done for some considerable time, although as you say, it's the trend these days?

Seriously it is the new policy to let nature take its course and only trim the borders.

It’s still a one man job though? strimmer, mower with collector/grass box, empty cuttings, job done.

I'm pretty sure that they have to work in groups of no less than two men on H&S grounds nowadays.

And quite right too.

Far too much unnecessary cutting of verges and spraying chemicals goes on as it is.

Although local authorities need to be taught that wild areas need proper management and it is not an excuse to do sod all.

Ramsey must be due for another town hall soon.

Interesting to see Jon Joughin canvassing in East today, introducing himself as the mayor on the doorstep and asking people to vote for these three candidates.

Despite Manx Radio's up to the minute reporting, there is indeed another candidate standing in Douglas Central, Stephen Pitts.

Aren’t you confusing Douglas Central Local Authority Election with Douglas Central Keys Election
