How can anyone plausibly argue against local authority reform?!

5 commissioners max, 5 LA's  North, South, West, 2 x East in population centre.

The only plausible argument against is the rates, which need reforming anyway. Like Port Erin rates are almost double Rushen, what would happen if it became one new South LA? The PE rates won't go down, the others would rise.

It costs the same to empty a bin in Ramsey as it does in Port Erin.

All island rate needs to be introduced asap

There's not a chance it'll lower it for anyone. They'd look at Douglas and Ramsey, which both take the piss, and base it off those.

Either way it's insane that there are such massive differences in rates. It need reforming with an all island rate.

Fine, so you should be paying higher vehicle tax for using more roads to get to Douglas and Onchan.

You don't because the idea is bonkers, just like the current LA and rates situation.

Didn't @Chris Thomas start the rate reform process? looking at revaluing rates based on property square meterage using building footprint from aerial reconnaissance?

Did it get kicked into the long grass or filed in the "too difficult" draw?

I imagine it's very difficult to come up with a "fair" system due to all the factors (occupants, building size and usage, location) involved in assessing them.

But the people of Andreas still walk the streets of Douglas and benefit from its facilities.
