Well that’s where I was going next as I thought the credits (your own money!) expired after a certain length of time after being loaded so it would be interesting to know how long that £30K has sat there for. Maybe a corporate gave some rewards to staff last Xmas that they’ve still not spent as they didn’t like what you could spend it on?

Capital international bought most of the cards.  The DFEs pet company, or strongest lobbyist.

hugely popular scheme is to be reintroduced

https://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/government-help-for-businesses-as-cost-of-living-rise-bites-574051

quote Hooperman

"The LoveIOM gift card plays an essential role in keeping gifting spend within our economy versus being re-directed off-island in the form of online market place vouchers. Following the success of the previous LoveIOM Top-up Incentive Campaign, which generated over £40,000 of funds last Christmas, the card is seen as a win-win for both residents and businesses with the latter benefiting from a boost in patron numbers in slower trading months post-Christmas period."

At which point, one has to wonder are they operating on the same planet?

Ah the classsic government approach.... it didn't work. Okay lets throw some more money at it in the middle of a spectularly hard year for most peoples disposable income. So lets take a chunk of that scarcer income and put it on card with very limited use and an expiry date to boot.

Obvioulsy Laurie Hooper wasn't a very good accountant if he doesn't understand the basic concept of sunk costs. Or to put it terms he could understand "Don't throw good money after bad".

Sadly politicians do as they do to make themselves feel important and not effective.

Pinewood ring a bell?

The more you read about this the bigger joke it becomes

So they’re now adding ..

Top-up Incentives

A bonus credit of 25% to a maximum of £10.00 will be automatically added to cards purchased from 22nd November to 24th December 2022.

So a maximum of a tenner if you load up to £40 what a massive benefit!

Why not Weekdays-Credit back Incentives

From January 23 to March 31 any spend on the LoveIOM Gift cards during weekdays (Monday-Thursday) will earn a 25% credit back (up to £50 on a spend of £200) the next day.

A benefit you have to spend next day (which hardly anyone will) so it’s hardly a benefit at all and between two bizarre dates. Why 23rd Jan?

Why not offer users a free punch in the face, or one used sock with a hole in it if they’re going to resort to such pathetic ‘benefits’ to encourage use?

Is that what it says, or means?

It’s what it infers. The whole press release is badly written. In fact the most accurate bit is the comment left at the bottom.

No, it infers the 25% credit will appear and be available the day following the original expenditure. There is nothing  to say or infer, when the credit has to be spent.
