How can I be so thick? EVs are coming?

EVs are here, for now. They are not the future. Hydrogen cell probably are. I predict in 20 years time court cases and class actions along the lines of the current diesel compensation claims, because EVs are just not viable. The infrastructure is a complete waste of money. The manufacture of EVs has a far greater footprint than IC. The break even point is currently in the area of 50-70K miles. Cost of disposal is also greater.

2030 deadline will slip. Besides, the majority of vehicles on the road will still be IC.

so what's the process for getting hydrogen fuel into a car ?   how eco friendly is that ?

You'll have to get used to it as the numbers will keep increasing. Unless of course government build some cycle paths and then everyone will be happy.....well until you find something else to moan about.

You mean more cycle paths?

Well I’m not happy about the money being spent on these when there’s so much better use of our taxes.

I’m sure there are other things I could also moan about. Well I know so

Yes. On purpose. That's because you evaded my question on purpose. So I'll ask again. You say there will be hydrogen powered cars within 20 years so need for charge points. However what is your plan between now - 2030 and 2041. No ICE and in your world no EVs either.

The whole issue is completely wrongly advised. There are two problems in the World. Too many people. Too much rubbish. All this carbon being burned into the atmosphere has been there before. It was recaptured by plants in all forms. However, mankind in its wisdom, has stripped and polluted the capture mechanism to a critical point. What is needed is to clean up the oceans and allow them to do their work to reset the balance. Plant fast growing, high carbon capture trees like eucalyptus, that has many other uses. Encourage people to keep their existing vehicles. Use and reuse.

Encouraging people to spend tens of thousands of pounds on a false promise of an electric car is basically fraudulent. Hideous. I want no part of it. We all really need to be telling governments around the world to stop. Now. The problem is that there is too much CO2  and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere already. EVs do not remove them. That is what needs to happen. Not spending millions on charging points that only encourage adding to the problem

Electric vehicles are a stop gap only. I don't pretend to know what the total solution is, but electricity/lithium batteries with the current range limitations, expense and use of resources cannot be the answer. I see electric vehicles as a temporary solution. Somebody, somewhere will be working on something more sustainable than this.

Maybe hydrogen technology will be the answer but whatever it is, it needs to stop raping the earth of its resources in the unsustainable, non-return, difficult to manage fashion that electric vehicles currently offer.

Oh dear. Maybe not eucalyptus then?

DofE?

Tell them that Spock sent you, they'll welcome you with open arms and a "space cluster" contract 😂

You have made some reasonable points.

However the decision has been made about ICEs in 2030. Yes some people will buy one 31 dec 2029, but they find that restriction on town access/high duty might make that a poor decision.

Currently most of the worlds hydrogen is generated by burning fossil fuels. There are other methods but currently low production output and inefficient.

Like others say, EVs will be the stopgap whether we like it or not. A stopgap that could endure for 20 years. Charge points are needed.
