Petrol and diesel RIP OFF

It will be interesting to see what happens with pricing once the new E10 (10% ethanol) unleaded arrives here (if we're told). It's supposed to be priced cheaper than normal unleaded but will cause untold damage to cars "of a certain age".

Current unleaded will continue to be available at the super unleaded price in UK apparently, with a discount on RFD to reduce owners of older vehicles being penalised.

Will IoMG and local suppliers be so generous...?

Always look on the bright side 😁

The change to E10 is irrelevant.

What a stupid topic, most things are more expensive here as volume is smaller & there’s a cost to get it here. There’s been numerous investigations & never any profiteering shown

How does it get to the Island? Boat

what is the cheapest form of bulk transport? Boat....

It's extremely relevant in respect of use in older vehicles and as to whether the touted concessions available in the UK will be made available to IoM consumers.

i'd conclude that the people buying super unleaded are buying unleaded and don't know it.

I’ve been told that since hardly anybody buys it here, it goes ‘off’ in the tanks at the stations, so isn’t actually very super at all.

What difference is it meant to make anyway?

Super unleaded is a rip off unless you have an ultra high performance car.

You should stick to the normal unleaded. May also make your kids bedroom smell a bit better.

Depends what you drive.

I’ve got one vehicle which specs 95 Octane/regular unleaded but will, on a hot day and under heavy load, start knocking. It’s carburettor fed and has a compression ratio is around 12.8:1. On Super, it never has an issue. But, it has not got a clever ECU, and is quite highly strung.

Either way, it’s a moot point when the manufacturer has said that it can’t use E10. It’ll be stuck running super.

It’s for higher performance engines, it burns slower under compression. Some engines won’t run on regular fuel without pre-detonation. Some cars are able to run on both but run slightly better/with more power on the better fuel.

In the UK, branded ones like V-Power tend to advertise extra detergents and additives in too which they claim makes a difference.

Anecdotally, the V-Power diesel doesn’t save money but doesn’t cost money for the extra handful of MPGs it nets you.

Anything pre-2012 I believe.

Pre 2000 for most cars. Some post 2000 but all post 2010 are compatible.

Cars don't go forever. If you have a classic then use the E5. Can't see the issue. The world changes. You'll be asking for leaded back next.

There are many things wrong in the world to moan about. This isn't one of them.

Apparently our fuel is export grade, it doesn’t have any ethanol in or whatsoever, if we don’t have E5 now then I can’t see us getting E10, hopefully one of the modified motor lot will ask.

It's had 10% of the stuff in it for some time in the UK. The level of ethanol is rising to 20% in the UK for normal unleaded, while the super will remain at 10% for older car owners. Apparently we don't have any added to fuel sold on the IoM.
