Good summary from Gef from those who don’t want to read the full version.

The increasing salaries & the numbers earning over £50k in government are eye watering & not sustainable without tax rises.

If you think the numbers in Government earning over £50 K ( which are transparent) are eye watering, then you need to look at the private sector which £50 k is not an uncommon salary.

If it needs tax rises for the public sector to compete for quality staff with the private sector so be it.

At least the private sector actually does something and self generates the money!

Does Govt get the "quality" staff?

Some but the main problem is that there’s too many mediocre staff earning big salaries & blocking the younger ones with real ability who leave to private sector.

The lack of accountability, proper assessments are performance related pay is a major issue as no real incentive to perform at higher levels

Why should I have to be penalised to pay for the public sector and civil service?

lol.  Good one.

In the private sector people are paid what they are worth and usually in relation to how much they generate for the business, pay is performance related and promotions and pay rises are performance related.

In the private sector if you screw something up you lose your job.

They also take the risks. The public sector and civil servants take risks with the knowledge that it’s not their money - it’s taxpayers. In the private sector you are appraised, if your performance is poor then your position may be affected. In the IOMG poor performances are encouraged and rewarded. After all, it’s very hard to be sacked, especially if your the CEO of a large department.

And the public sector does nothing?

Its not about generating the money. It’s about serving the public (Public servants- get it?)

Try living  without them.

Who would collect your taxes and oversee the spending thereof?

Who would police your streets?

Who would put your fires out?

Who might operate on you to save your life?

Who would collect the millions of pounds in VAT?

Who would administer the payment of your benefits?

I’m sorry but that is bollocks, I’ve known plenty in the private sector who have screwed stuff up and kept their job.

It’s a damn sight more “clubby” than the public sector

“ In the private sector people  are paid what they are worth”

Yes like those on minimum wage in the gig economy

What sort of world are you living in?

Have you ever worked in the private sector?

Which industry?
