While the NHS has grown massively since it was first setup in 1948 and provides treatments that weren’t even imagined at that time, an original deliverable of the NHS was for people to be able to see a family doctor!.

Cmon ManxCare deliver some improvement that doesn’t require tens of £millions to be spent which could have been thrown at the old DHSS for the same outcomes. Add some value for your non-Executive titles etc.

If GP charged for appointments you would quickly find that all the people going in for prescriptions for colds, sore leg, constipation etc would go t chemists where they should have gone in first place & loads of appointments available!!

Manx care has failed on all three.

How much longer are we going to persist before someone admits that our health care is the worst it's been in history and manxcare has only made it worse.

There is no Plan B.  

We can no longer go it done, it is too expensive. Partnerships with UK NHS is the only way now. Although I think they could have been a bit more open about some of the "problems" they have encountered.

I know someone who has had 5 different appointments cancelled in recent weeks ,the last one following a telephone call on the day of the appointment , Just what is going on in our health service ,

Short staffed. Needs to be properly funded. Need to convince people to move to the island, expand training and offer decent salaries

I think this is wrong. Of course we need the UK for the complex and the rare, but for the simple routine business of healthcare the last thing we need to do is partner the UK. Their NHS is on its knees. I was at a conference last week and speaking to several friends who still work there, the last thing we need is to be a satellite unit of an NHS trust. If that’s what we do we’ll always be an afterthought and the first to suffer in times of stress (ie always)

What we need is to make working here significantly more attractive than working there and get people to commit to the island’s health service long term, rather than relying on a succession of interim appointments who are seen as the next saviour figure. And this isn’t just about money - it’s about working conditions. Let’s offer mentoring for all new starters, retention premiums, free childcare and other employment perks, sabbaticals, guaranteed wind down working from age 55. Many other things I might not have thought of. 
 

I still maintain that healthcare here is pretty good if you can access it. And that is the problem. The admin side needs to be improved with regard to cancellations which we’ve all heard about. And access needs to be improved which simply means more staff. Attracting them has to be a priority.

But it seems to be very much the Manx Care plan.  At the Conference last week there was much talk from Cope and others about closer ties with NHS North West and how various people were now sitting on boards over there.  Some of this may be useful, but the attitude seems to have shifted from moving people across when you have to, to it becoming the default.

Surely the answer is to fix OUR NHS to be better, not to link to the UK nHS and then if that fails to improve our service, possibly the US private system and if that fails, what about Russian, Turkish or Indian health tourism? ...and so on without improving OUR service!!!

There must be people who are capable of improving our service? They may need to be given Carte Blanche to achieve the end result, there may be Doctors and Nurses slapped on the wrist or 'let go' but if it achieves the result of an expected NHS that we require, then so be it???

Well quite, but more to the point how has the 'structure' been allowed to fail in such a terrible way. 

We have seen one CQC  report into our own health service, will the others be published? 

We know our mental health services are poor, do we have similar issues in our system for vulnerable people whether through age or mental health?
