Is there any proof people died because she was ignored ?    The Government were frantically trying to get Islanders home before they closed the borders a lot of them students, it was a very scary time and giving them another week to let people return to the Island was a difficult one.    Was it the right one….who knows ?

The bastards would not let me and the wife home until 13 May as she was  immunosupressed, they said we could go to the Mount Murray which we agreed to I agreed and paid the deposit if they would supply a risk assessment to cover her ailments and health needs, this was refused and told that she was unable to return. shower of bastards the lot of them, that Ashford and Quayle should be hung by the bollocks, pair of wankers both of them.

Fair enough too much genuinely shitty stuff happened. You can at least get your point across to the covid review team they are asking for submissions to investigate.

Correct.

Her medical opinion was overruled by greenhow, DJ Dan and the quiz master.  If you have a medical emergency do you see the advice from three unqualified civil servants or a team of medical experts?

Presumably because a decision was taken not to leave 000s stranded in the Uk & elsewhere with no accommodation & means of support & I personally think residents should have been allowed to return home subject to isolation in homes & not the system of so many lucky people per week to be locked up in Comis

The take away is that this kind of behaviour is endemic throughout the NHS, here and in the UK. But, this has provided the BMA with a copper bottom example to ram that home here and there.

That is not to diminish the importance for the IOM.  As he implied, this is a real opportunity to deal with it and 'fix' the cultural issues and be (and be seen to be) ready and willing to do so.  Rather than resist, we should be asking "where do we sign up?".

Perhaps I am being simplistic, but is it naive to think that the best people to run health care are those with medical qualifications, heavily reliant, of course, on senior administrators to do the grunty management bureaucracy? In other words, should a medical decision from a medical professional ever be overruled by a non-medical executive?

You see it quite frequently that the top people of any organisation who do not actually understand the fundamental 'business' of the organisation make the wrong decisions.

The other take away is this ain't going away with platitudes and weasly words.

Reading the above puts me in mind of the TV series "Can Gerry Robinson Fix the NHS?"

Sounds like a pub quiz question.

Do they still do it and what is the exact criteria?  It was a question raised by PM in the interview which made you think the message is "we advertise it, but don't recommend it".

Don’t know - can’t recall seeing any recently. Also not sure of exact criteria, but it was to do with contracts, rather than if there were issues around culture.

Covid response was not an issue to be determined solely by medics, albeit that with no reserve capacity im sure the consultants voices came through strongly to influence political decision making. The politicians should get clear but balanced advice of the pros and cons of different courses but it was not just a medical issue.

Where our imports into public health went wrong was in blithely following PHE and PHE alone, whose own ability to assess and manage a pandemic was seriously lacking and where IoM did possess different tools ie Government control of a limited number of ports. That’s not to say that shutting the borders earlier would have been the only possible right decision, given the need to organize and a legitimate element of wait and see before proclaiming the emergency. It was an option but you could have ended up with 1000s rather than hundreds left in limbo outside the island.

In the same way a brewery doesn’t necessarily have to be run by the brewer, the medics didn’t have the final say. And wasn’t Dr Ewart a medic?

No, but it needs to listen closely to the head brewer especially on matters relating to brewing and not prevent them from speaking to the board on an important brewing issue.

The NPM has a nice report of the visit to the island of the Chairman of the British Medical Association. He has described the island as ‘corrupt’ and his calling for a public inquiry. He also says that Manx doctors are working in a culture of fear, said to be amongst the worst in the British Isles.

What a sad indictment of the Isle of Man under the CM Cannan’ regime/junta. For someone who’s sole policy was to flood the island with everyone and anyone, but not invest in the basics required, really speaks volumes. It’s proving to be a wonderful piece of publicity which doesn’t put the island in a glowing light, especially if you consider that healthcare is one of the major factors of people, when the decide to relocate anywhere.
