I'm sure you didn't mean it, but it did come across a bit like you thought Ranson had got too much if this guy only got £1 million.  But both cases were actually affected by legally set maximums and Ranson could only get as much as she did because there is no limit for whistleblowing.  If she had been dismissed unfairly for other reasons it would have been much less and certain parts were still restricted.  For example she only got £5000 (the maximum) for 'hurt feelings'  because no matter what the psychological damage your employers cause that's what the law says.

What the two cases do share is an unwillingness by those in charge to admit they were ever wrong.

Ranson got too much , i think any reasonable person would think that. I ignore the so called rules as there is law - but there is no justice.
The chap who had really had is whole life ruined ( I’m sure Ranson will get over it given time - after all it was only about 6 months of a bit of a not very hard time as opposed to 17 years of your life).

Courtesy of GEF again: Do You Really Need to go to Hospital?

The answer is yes if you can't get a GP appointment within a reasonable time.

You have to wonder how long we can sustain the GP tier in the health service. I get the impression that it's really not fit for purpose on the Island.

plenty of doctors, just too many knackered people that overwhelm the system courtesy of the same doctors that keep them going.

an accurate joke before the melts chime in.

From what I can see Manx Care is just another level of bureaucracy and saves the Health Minister making any decisions he can be called out on.    Another expensive mistake.

Probably a greater even more expensive exercise to put back into the DHSC.

I just tried to get an appointment to have an ear syringed. The Ramey Group Practice politely informed me that they no longer provide that service and that I should get it done privately.

A company in Onchan quoted me £79, but not possible until 11 September.

So I will try the company in Port Erin next week at a mere £50 (for one ear) - and they took a £20 deposit over the phone.

This sounds like the beginning of the privatisation of anything minor in the health service.

Steven Griffiths will do it at the hospital privately for £50, as another option.
