Agreed. The mixed messaging coming out of MC leaves a lot to be desired.

It's standard with the NHS though.

Minor injury and they tell you to see your GP not A&E.  GP tells you to go to A&E.   A&E suggests MEDS!   In the end you just use Google or Youtube!

I had something in my eye a few weeks ago.  Couldn't keep it open.  Streaming with tears.  Couldn't really drive or work.  Looked at the guidance and it suggested rather than go to A&E, go and see an Optician, which seemed pretty sensible.  I went to 3 opticians in town, not a single one would see me.  Even though I pointed out I didn't need minor surgery, just for them to look into it and tell me if it was a scratch (in which case, just man-up) or if there was something harmful in there.

Apparently, in the UK for such matters you are advised by whatever the phone line is for the NHS, to go to a red eye clinic at an opticians.  Finding one, though, is a different matter.

There is also the ‘old-fashioned’ but vital question of fairness. Over the years, successive IOM governments have recklessly trashed taxpayers’ money on vanity projects and plain incompetence. Now, they are continuing that tradition and at the same time want to recoup these cumulative financial losses by cutting frontline public services such as health, social care and education. An example of ‘nonsense spending’ is Manx Care’s desire to appoint ever more desk jockeys (with two Porsches), but does not have enough money to pay nurses, ENT and orthopaedic specialists, etc.

Surely, what the public should be demanding from our politicians, including Sarah Maltby, to stop talking in pointless generalities and to start owning up to their collective past and present mistakes and, most of all, to offer up some practical solutions. I concede that some of the calamities are now legacy issues, but the IOM’s incumbent politicians should have taken these issues into account when they put themselves forward as people who would ‘tirelessly’ serve the public interest.

I would welcome politicians taking pay cuts to their salaries and also to the salaries of the IOM senior civil servants before there are any cuts to NHS funding. The DOI and DfE leadership would be at the top of my list.

Allison was saying in interview that to pay nurse’s what they want will cost £ms and fund healthcare for demands 10s of £ms which they haven’t got or will need more drawdown from reserves. Paul Moore, head of nursing wants RCN to go to binding arbitration but they won’t.

with regard to civil servants they have voted to strike over 5.5% pay offers, although I can’t see many of them losing a day’s pay to strike.

Government-side legal costs for Ransom tribunal are eye-watering!

Including the costs for the Appeals that Hooper backed as Minister. Any thoughts for your taxpayers, Lawrie?

What do you think? Nothing …………. and the same could be applied to CM Cannan. I don’t know if this £888, 061 is the final figure, or the figure so far with more to be added?

It’s revealing in a way when we have all these issues, particularly with Nurses pay, proposed cutback in services etc, and here we are paying out huge sums in legal costs.

If IOMG had behaved in a reasonable, sensible way - apologised for Magson’s bad behaviour, offered Dr Ranson her job back, even some mild compensation - we wouldn’t be where we are today.   But no - it was “Man the barricades and lawyer up”.   Pathetic attempt to win at ANY cost - and doomed to failure.

Presumably these huge legal costs are coming out of the DHSC/MC budget?   Explains a lot…

Nobles and health care is more than enough funded. It’s dick waving bollox like Manx Care beaurocracy, thousands of over paid pen pushers snd wastage like Ransom that leaves it in negative budget. Unfortunately no one has the balls to start over with health care and put the money at the front line instead of the board room. More money will be allocated and the shit goes on and on. It will be for ever thus.
See the NHS as well.

He got their vote last time, and Dr Death.

Next time not so much

They have said they would rather vote for Wilf of skip hire fame in place of those 2.

I cant imagine they are alone in thinking that (Well maybe the Wilf Skip bit)
