IOM DHSC & MANX CARE

The local newspapers website informs us that the new Summerhill View (ex Glenside), is nearly completed and will soon be ready for handover. However the same article says, there is doubt as to whether Manx Care/DHSC are going to operate it, and there is a suggestion that a third party manages it. Will this save the taxpayers any money? Remember Salisbury Street Nursing Home which was a private venture, until IOMG decided it must buy it. Something isn’t adding up.

I thought the Government built Salisbury Street with the idea of it being privately run with 50% occupancy to be available for government placings.    May be wrong it is a while ago and u turns may have been made.    The present staff at RNB are under the impression that they are moving up to Summer Hill view in a staggered move, half as soon as it is completed with 50% of residents and then some months later the second batch.   There is also a special section for dementia patients.

The photo of Summerhill View on the Isle of Man Newspapers website is very interesting:

New Douglas residential care home and day centre nears completion | iomtoday.co.im

It looks like another Government triumph of form over function. The stone cladding alone must have cost a fortune and why all the chimneys.

And not a sign of a solar panel!

Ideal place to have ground source heat pump too.

The Summerhill Nursing Home is getting an airing in the local media. However, DHSC/Manxcare are saying that the home will likely be run by an independent provider, as Manxcare/DHSC haven’t got the staff to operate. Did manpower ever feature in the discussion when debating this new development?

That’s normal isn’t it? One in Salisbury street is similar.

It's the arms length scenario, once some one comes with a fuckwit idea where they can absolve themselves from any responcibility over running or being held accountable. All started with manx care next airport and now new carehome. We all seen how they covered themselves with glory with the Salisbury care plan, now the bunch of fuckwits think this is the way to go. Most will not have to care if it is a success or not as it is likely that they may be a large house clearance due in the not to distant future(2 years)  So that just leaves you and me the downtrodden manx tax payers to pick up the pieces and no doubt the eye watering bill. Also if you can not run one of theses homes and make money(aprox £4,400 per inmate per month 60 beds) it would be the manx government. No doubt some one will get the best rent deal everseen on a nursing home and not even have to pay upkeep knowing the brains of the great manx civil service.

Salisbury Nursing Home was back in 2016. That's before Manx Care was created.

It's really depressing to read that as a new facility is being made ready for use they are thinking how it will be run. 😢 also the casual way in which can't cope states, at this juncture, I need more money to run it. Where is the forward planning. It's mad!

Two likely outcomes. It stands empty, the service provider provides value for money compared to the layers of DHSC and MC management can't cope is thinking of, but doesn't provide value for money for the taxpayer in relative terms. Plus it'll now need a team of regulators.

Bonkers.

It’s not boding well. All I think if a third party operator comes in, is the importing of cheap minimum wage labour from overseas, or corners being cut, or a blind eye being turned.
