The problem is nothing will change if he goes. He's already grooming/moulding his replacement at the moment in the new COO of Cabinet Office. It's just a giant self-perpetuating mess which they'll probably attempt to solve by hiring their favourite consultancy firm to look into.

He may be grooming a successor, but that is where Cannan needs to step in and say “We’re doing this my way.” He’s supposed to be an HR professional.

As a key part of the selection process, he could require a presentation on how each candidate has driven, and successfully delivered, cultural and organisational change in a failing organisation. That would sort the wheat from the chaff.

The ‘old boy’ network is part of the problem and has to be tackled.

If you hadn't called yourself Nigel Knobrott you might have actually got a few signatures.

Yes, I would have signed as "Mingey Memsaab".

TBH a change.org petition is not what is needed.  It is a barrage of emails to MHKs.  Let's stoke the bastards.

Just saying....

What should I do if I believe that someone with an honour has behaved in a way that could lead to forfeiture?

You should contact the Cabinet Office at honours@cabinetoffice.gov.uk, naming the individual and explaining the reasons why you believe their honour should be forfeited. Please bear in mind that personal disputes are not likely to be a reason to forfeit an honour. Examples of the kind of behaviour that may lead to revocation of an honour can be found below.

What is the process for forfeiture?

Recommendations to remove honours are considered by the Forfeiture Committee. Each case is considered individually. The Committee’s recommendations for forfeiture are submitted through the Prime Minister to the Queen. If the Queen gives her approval, a notice of forfeiture is usually placed in the London Gazette.

Yes.

The Committee is not an investigatory body – it does not decide whether or not someone is guilty or innocent of a particular act. Instead, it reflects the findings of official investigations and makes a recommendation of whether or not the honours system has been brought into disrepute.

This was pre-covid, well pre letting it run riot on island

Well the IOM border closure was 23rd March so if this event was the 2nd of March it suggests we had an outbreak well before we closed the borders and enacted the emergency legislation (ie, we had no legal right to isolate people) that was hushed up.

Except the full part is …

has been censured or struck off by the relevant regulatory authority or professional body, for actions or failures to act, especially which are directly relevant to the granting of the honour”

Ashford’s not a member of a professional body. Nor been censured by anyone, yet.
