The Phantom
According to a few news reports now, it seems that sheer volume of dolphins killed in this incident has actually pissed off a lot of the Islanders. Usually it's a few hundred, but this was almost 1500. It also wasn't properly 'authorised'. Apparently there is a Sheriff, who is responsible for making the call was hiking in the mountains at the time. The Faroese PM has stated that they will be evaluating the hunt. quilp
There's the 52 pilot whales slaughtered recently too, in the name of tradition/culture/custom. The practice is somehow mitigated by the above words. There's nothing 'humane' in the manner of their death either, those carcasses have numerous gaping wounds. They took time to die, probably painfully, hacked-at with what can reasonably described as medieval weaponry and bleeding to death. Fuckers. Does make you think at what point in history was this regarded as acceptable and why. Did people have less compassion in earlier times? I understand the need for killing animals, mammals to eat but did people ever eat foxes? ( serious question, I don’t know) but why make a celebration of it? And do it in the cruelest way? OK foxes kill chickens but you don’t have to dress up and have elaborate rituals to eliminate them. It’s sickening. Like drowning witches and the still happening bullfighting.
