Roger Mexico
Despite the wording of the definition, the modern convention is surely that 'Great Britain' includes its offshore islands - though not the Isle of Man or Channel Isles or Ireland (and all their offshore islands). Otherwise you get in the silly situation of saying that Anglesey or even Portsea aren't really part of Great Britain - and if they aren't what are they? Ideally Britain would be used for the main island and Great Britain to include the offshore but politically included ones, but usage is confused. the stinking enigma
Surely we should be all able to use GMP badges now, wherever we go. I think this is what howie was trying to sort out when he was away.

It’s like adverts on television saying mainland U.K. only in small print. WTF does that mean?

You have more chance here than Shetland. Anglesey is no problem cos of the Bridges

Except it won't be as clear as that. It will certainly include Portsea if it delivers to the rest of Portsmouth, but it might exclude the Isle of Wight. It will probably exclude Orkney and Shetland, but certainly not Canvey island or the Isle of Sheppey. It might even exclude places that are most definitely part of the British Mainland such as parts of the Scottish Highlands. It will usually be postcode based, but the list will vary by the carrier used and even supplier. It's a complete mess and illustrates the joys of privatisation. I’m assuming it sometimes means not Northern Ireland, particularly on car insurance adverts of old, but that would then be Great Britain.
