so why don't manx gas fuck the MEA off and buy their gas from elsewhere ?

Because I imagine the MUA is their seller of last resort in the current market with their crappy balance sheet. But presumably if Manx Gas can’t hedge via the MUA anymore and the MUA can hedge it’s position then inherently there would seem to be considerable potential for arbritage between long and spot purchase between supplier and customer?

They have no pipes

manx gas existed long before the pipes were laid.  you'd think the gas company would be supplying the gas to the electricity company to produce the electricity rather than have an electricity company supplying gas to a gas company. the mea don't supply diesel to manx petroleums or ellan vannin  fuels do they??

I am talking about the main that is used to bring gas to the Island. The high pressure pipeline. There is only one and its owned by the MUA.

As you highlight we really don’t need Manx Gas. They lease infra off us and pay a big dividend to their PE owners off gas that’s been bought from the MUA and then resold to us at a mark up. We should have let them go bust and taken over their pipeline rights and deliver gas direct to consumers.

How would you have let them go bust?

Govt should continue to subsidise the cost of electricity to the consumer whilst a renewable energy plan is developed far ahead of the stupid 2030 target date, making a least an element of affordable home heating achievable with electric heaters

The Manx Gas product is just unaffordable, & the company should be left to it's fates

But what about the contractual agreement that we have with them? If only life were that simple eh!
