We already have an interconnector. It's not the best and it must be getting near to the end of its life, but I believe we can already run fine without Pulrose. So which part is blathering Mr DOI? Jersey has been running off an inter connector with France for a good period of time now. It’s clearly been a good way of 1. Ensuring low electricity costs for its consumers and 2. Obtaining cleaner energy via a high proportion of nuclear power. We have done neither but have proposed to move to a situation where the interconnector becomes the substantial source of greener power in the IOM. In contrast our MUA subsidized its main users by £18M in the last year or so and that’s before the real spikes in natural gas occurred. Yes, we choose not to buy from the UK. We normally sell a fair bit but that's probably dead in the water now. I think ultimately you will be correct and we will have more interconnectors and just import all the time. You accused me of blathering and then two posts later you basically agreed with me. I’ve read the Arup report several times which is why I posted the link to the article on Jersey. An interconnector seems to be the best way to manage things rather than the MUA giving away £18M to its customers from its profits to keep costs down. The problem with nuclear isn't so much problems with radioactivity or even the lack of long-term storage (though even the French haven't sorted this). It's simply that it's quite expensive anyway and the construction of new stations seems to take forever and cost a bomb. Construction started on Hinkley Point C in 2008 and it looks like it now won't be finished till 2028. And cost £25 billion.
