I wonder if our representatives have any real grasp of what it will take to achieve a reduction of 68% in emissions in just 8 years? The effect it will have on our economy and lifestyles will be unequalled in modern times in order to meet this target?

If this the extension of the existing windfarms around Heysham/Morecambe Bay into Manx waters, or is it something on or nearer to the island?

My impression was that it's the former, but I'd welcome something much closer to home

If it's on island then I hope they start early next year rather than wait a decade

Where would you put a wind farm? Given the fact that the Morecambe Bay windfarm is very visible in clear conditions, and that is many miles away, what would it look like in "our back yard"?

See the size comparisons in this link. The larger of the turbines shown is about 1/3 the height of Snaefell. Land mounted ones can be about half of that height. They need quite large bases, as well as lots of air space.

According to a Blackpool newspaper, we've already got a windfarm, though!

"The new wind farm, situated in the Irish Sea between the resort and the Isle of Man, is one of six proposed new offshore wind projects for the waters around England and Wales.

It is not known at this stage whether the turbines would be clearly visible from Blackpool, but on clear days, the wind farm on the Isle of Man - further away - is visible from the resort."

Not to mention nowhere near an airport as they severly interfere with radar. Lets not build on a potential gas field, high speed ferry routes. Why not just purchase/lease a few extra from a UK concern when they next build an offshore facilty then sell it into UK grid to get top price on any unused capacity. That way you could over size the thing for 120%-140% of maximum demand on a low wind day and use the revenue to pay for the facility while getting our own electricity for free or subsidised.

Trouble is our politicos will want to micromanage a highly visible '"look how virtuous we are" triskelion, celtic painted monsters and still screw it up by having them face the wrong way.

In the unlikely event that independence is granted anytime soon, what would be next for Scotland? Re-entry into the EU? Join the queue and then there's legal arrangements, the paperwork, meetings and deal-breaking, how long would that take? Would it leave Scotland in limbo for a couple of years? How would it affect trade? Where will the resources come from? Has Sturgeon the political longevity to see it through?

Ah , the usual campaign fear pedalled by the Unionists. The truth of course is no one really knows until it happens but in won’t be the disaster the Unionists predict. Other nations have done so Scotland can do so as well.

Ah keep voting until you get the 'right' vote then. Which 'other nations' by the way?

. the IOM produces 0.0025% of the worlds CO2. That's probably less than the margin of error for China

WHO CARES WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE?

It is needed to save the planet from death in the future.

GET IT BUILT ASAP

For the retarded boat in the morning crew, there will not be a boat or anywhere to go to if the worlds people don't get on board with this.

Scotland may find itself in a state of limbo, at least for a while should independence come about. Let me say, I'm not against you Jocks going it alone. Seems though, that nationalist enthusiasm for separation and the romantic notion of waving at the Sassenach's across a border has gone to your heads.
