doc.fixit
Well, I hope OAPs don't have our pension made even lower.
manxfisherman
There are a number of firms who proudly pay the gov calculated living wage, so now their employees can look forward to an annual payrise of 18p per hour. Well done government, stick it to the low paid workers. Again.

Nomadic Raptor
I saw that they said living wage is 21k I wonder how many customer service staff in banks and life assurance are on that. I would guess not many

Then 5 years later it becomes clear that anyone who paid it overpaid their employees. So why would any employer voluntarily do it again? It seems that we can’t even get the basics right when it comes to anything. We have to employ third parties to check the stuff civil servants have completely made up. If I was an employer I’d be asking for a tax credit to make up for the 5 years of overpayment I was wrongly led to have made by following made up government advice. Kopek
.........and if you were an employee on this rate you would pay it back, no doubt???

But employers have been completely misled by government to paying people more than they should have. It’s not the employees fault is it? Employers took government guidance on the living wage and it will have affected their P&L over the last 5 years.

We may have to employ a considerable number of third parties then... Which bunch of incompetents will be held responsible for this latest faux pas then? Because it shouldn’t have been made and because it will have affected employers profits. They acted on guidance given to them by government which was basically completely wrong.
