Then I could see your IP in the log of a server hosting content I have posted in the thread (or in, say, an invisible signature). Also - you don't have to actually browse in real-time - you could basically script that. Even with multiple people viewing a thread you could quickly narrow it down. And not to announce it in advance, changing people's browsing habits. The short version is, technically possible (but implausible), entirely empty as a threat.
