Ramseyboi
Loads of fatties, and more teens and young adults smoking than any other age group. The smoking thing can’t be right is it? The weight thing clearly is. How depressing.
Ramseyboi
The obesity is particularly strange since so many people are apparently so worried about COVID. There is a very clear link between weight and how badly impacted someone can be if they catch it which has been documented pretty much from day one. You would have thought the pandemic was the perfect excuse for some powerful public health messaging about personal responsibility and looking after yourself. There must be a fear of saying it because I don’t recall them ever saying you can markedly reduce your own risk by eating better and doing more exercise. Instead there are a group of people who are overweight, popping vitamin tablets and wanting to wear masks everywhere they go. The whole report is pretty depressing especially when normal or low weight is now the minority by quite a margin.
Non-Believer
Are these UK or local figures? The smoking thing is surprising for the "woke" generation, never ceases to amaze me how many schoolkids you see still see dragging on a fag on their way into school too. Venture down Strand Street on a week day and these figures would seem accurate

It is a seriously depressing read. https://www.gov.im/media/1374813/isle-of-man-health-and-lifestyle-survey-2019-181021.pdf Edited November 4, 2021 by Ramseyboi
2112
Strand Street is deserted most of the time. There are sandwich takeaways and Costa, unless you lump in 1886. The Bakery on Duke Street is busy with pasty afficianados.

You head down any weekday from about 10am to 4pm and you'll see various people in varying states of bad health puffing their lungs away and just generally being overweight. It's like something out of Benidorm just without the sunshine.

Possibly a reason the IOM covid death figures are (according to the Doom Coven) world leading ?

Nearly 70 percent of adults being overweight or worse is an appealing statistic with much bigger implications for the health service than a few COVID cases. Doesnt help than when you live on a budget you haven’t got a hope of eating healthy food.

I would say we are similar to the UK (embarrassing) I haven’t been to places like Italy, Spain, Germany, Australia or New Zealand recently enough or frequently enough to comment. Gut feeling is we wouldn’t fair very well in comparison. If you look on some of the FB nostalgia pages where people post photos of groups of people from the 80’s or earlier the difference in average body shape is mind blowing. Probably not helped by doing housework being easier. Gardening being easier. Cycling is easier. Even a round of golf is easier or driving a car with power assisted everything. It has to be the biggest health crisis we are facing. High blood pressure. heart Disease. Diabetes etc etc. Edited November 4, 2021 by Ramseyboi
2112
Without being too cruel or sarcastic, but take a look at how some of our politicos are, both in their appearance, dress and for the want for a saying ‘not exactly short of a square meal’ and unlike some haven’t got to make a choice of heating or eating. Perhaps some would set a good example, by leading from the front. Edited November 4, 2021 by 2112 1

Not a hope in hell! Inexpensive foods are usually chock full of preservatives, salt and sugar and otherwise processed to the hilt. If you pay attention to labels, you'll often find added sugar in the most unlikely (processed) foods. No wonder people tend to over-eat such foods, as sugar is addictive.

Sorry to say but a trip to Nobles and a scan of the various health care professionals is equally alarming. It must be difficult to take advice on looking after yourself from people who clearly don’t. Would be a brave person to say it in public though.

Yet the same people who moan about not affording healthy food options are the very same with i-phones/iPads/sky etc etc. It's their priorities they have all wrong
