Interested to see that in the conservation areas in Douglas, where you can't replace a window without the permission of the Victorian Society, that the roads and pavements are being drilled up for fibre provision, with a hurried backfill of stark bright grey concrete and tarmac that sticks out like a sore thumb. It looks a right mess, a bodge job, surprised that they got permission for it.

It's a fair point. But then the pavements and the roads are shit anyway so all the you have to do is put them back as shit as the original.

Shit roads are a Victorian speciality. At least the Romans built proper straight roads with foundations.

The Victorians just had shit cart tracks with no foundations.

Would not expect to much, Ashford will still be getting into his persona of expert developer and architect. Which he will become after reading a few articles and watching power point videos on utube, committing to memory a few key phrases and then passing the plan as the developers want. Not taking in to account the 15 vehicles for residents or where the customers of the 3 resturants/bars will park. Or are they all going to turn up on their bicycles and scooters on a cold rainy winters nights.

There is loads of parking down there, and a new multi-storey coming soon anyway just down the road.

He'll also have to source a huge industrial shredder in which to fit large architectural drawings.

Looks like we’re going to be stuck with another derelict eyesore in Douglas, Ashford to the rescue??

Spineless waste of air planning department. What next. Let it rot for 30 years until demolition is the only option. What an eyesore. What an embarrassment. @Chris Thomas have you let us down?

I don't get it. DFE supportive - economic element. DBC supportive - local authority element.

Wasn't this initially refused and then Boot overturned it? https://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/planning/bid-submitted-for-80-bed-care-home-with-a-sea-view-234259

I can't believe the messing around with this, a classic deterrent to investment on this God forsaken, half arsed island.

Whilst investment is shunned and obstacles placed on people trying to do anything, like organising events etc, this place will sink further and further into obscurity!

We don't have departments to enable investment, we actually have them to deter it. They lose sight of what they are really there for! There's precious little left to protect, if that's what they think they are doing?
