Banker
Interesting article, we pay a lot more than our counterparts in Channel Islands, seems wrong we pay so much more! https://guernseypress.com/news/2021/11/18/islands-defence-contribution-to-the-uk-a-third-of-isle-of-mans/

Roger Mexico
Here's the Lords written question with all the actual details if anyone is interested. Contribution per head calculation for 2020/21[1]: Isle of Man: £3,236,233.76 - population 85,032 = £37.94 Guernsey: £1,068,538 - population 63,385 = £16.85 Jersey: £1,532,678.00 - population 107,800 = £14.22 UK: £39,800,000,000 - population 67,220,000 = £592.09 So if anyone is paying a lot it's the UK's taxpayers, not the Islands'. [1] Guernsey cost includes 2019 for passport not 2020 due to Covid. Populations 2020 via googling.

I don’t know if anyone has noticed Rob Callister in his comments about Foodbank on the island, he referred to this islands population as 840000. There is a discrepancy of 1032, and if you listen to IOMG propaganda which says the population has increased rapidly. As for the islands defence, I thought we pay for the Red Arrows and the Army/Navy/RAF bands to perform and parade on Tynwald Day. The Beating of the Retreat ceremony at Government House, a ceremony beloved by the great and the good, and Tynpotwald members, and Tynpotwald Anoraks

But then the UK is one of the most war mongering nations in the history of the planet, whereas the IOM is traditionally a peaceful place. You've got to wonder what exactly we need defending from anyway? In the extremely unlikely event that another country tries to have a go at us, you've got to image the UK would spring to our defence anyway due to our proximity / common travel arrangements etc. and subsequent threat to their own country. In fact you have to wonder if our condoning UK foreign policy, by contributing to their armed forces, actually makes us more of a target ( certainly from terrorism) than if we didn't contribute at all? We could further offset the likelihood of becoming a target by using the £3.2 million pounds that we have saved to increase our contribution of overseas aid to something more resembling (though still a long way off) the 0.7% of GDP the UN suggest developed countries should be giving. In the words of the late Tony Benn "If we can find the money to kill people, then we can find the money to help people." Edited November 18, 2021 by A fool and his money.....
