Thanks.

I think there is definitely scope to improve that offering. Those kind of things are popular, you can do things like Offa's Dyke where your stuff gets moved and you stay in a different place each night, although I appreciate that isn't a loop on a small island. Looking at that itinerary the only struggle is where to stay out Jurby way, could have had a holiday cabin at Glen Truan if that had gone through.

Someone working for the tourist board or whatever it is these days should look into it. Or maybe island escapes or a travel agent could look at it, do something along these lines https://www.sherpavan.com/coast-to-coast/ There's a market in walking holidays.

Edit - Ah that link is for a travel agent, well good on them. I hope they fill their two whole weeks. Guess they are professionals and know their market, maybe I'm wrong.

You could extend that kind of holiday for cycling around the island. It would be worth seeing what interest there was

And indeed many do.  Here's a local operator, here's one in the UK who offers tours, and here's another offering self-guided (and with two bases).

(Actually we pay them all to come over, just to annoy TVOR).

I was vaguely aware of those Roger, I was thinking along the lines of Teapot's suggestion riding from one to another staying at different places. Don't think anybody does them... or do they?

The third one I linked to is based in Douglas and then Ramsey.  Oddly it probably makes more sense for cyclists than walkers, who can return by private or public transport more easily that if you're lumbered with a large metal artefact.

Most of our coastal path is closed due to erosion. If you like walking on busy roads its a cracker of a walk

I've done many of these, Europe and Uk) Headwater.co.UK is a great example of Island walking.

Anyway, they generally have bronze and silver walks to cater for differing ability. Such that the bronze start later and picked up  at a pub or something as the baggage drop guy goes past. The Silver walk the full distance to the dogs (perhaps 15-20 miles).

What happens is the accommodation makes a packed lunch for you, having provided a nice evening meal. The accommodation provider moves the bags on (usually 20-30mins drive for them. Picking up bronze along the way.

It is a great holiday and I thought about doing it here, however ignoring travel costs and as a local walker, I would be embarrassed and expect many complaints for our present offering. Which is such a shame, given they in the main, promote themselves.

The NPM reported from a Select Committee on Footpaths today, apparently the Head of Visit IOM claims that the Walking Economy is worth £26m each year to the island. I don’t know where this figure was arrived at - fag packet probably? In a way one section of Government has criticised another section of Government, which probably won’t endear her to her political overlords.

Based on the amount spent on wet weather gear in Outdoors in Ramsey and other similar shops?

It's actually based on Jack Shit like most of the tourist figures.

People who come here to walk are not the types to blow fortunes on accommodation or spend at the Casino or similar.
