Good luck -

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jun/30/five-asian-countries-80-percent-new-coal-power-investment

"China, India, Indonesia, Japan and Vietnam plan to build more than 600 coal power units"

Only white people fall for these things. Reminder - the UK effects less than 1% percent of the environment, the IOM doesn't even register on any scale.

The comparison should be per head of population, not country size.

Anyway - any intelligent person knows that humanity and our planet doesn't stand a chance. Pity the poor kids being born these days.

Trying to ram heat pumps  and the cost of running them down our throats for starters.

Heat pumps can be very, very efficient and cost-effective. I may well be going in that direction in 2023.

They won't work as a direct replacement for oil or gas you would need to upgrade the size of all your rads (if even possible) or go UFH not to mention insulation so how much will all that cost?

Quite a lot.

I'll see how the solar cells work - I'm surprised I haven't seen storage heaters (economy 7) for use with solar power.

I'm down in Cornwall, 2 to 3 degrees warmer than the rock, don't need as much heating.

There's no technical reasons why you can't but you'll need a hell of an array to power them something like this.

And there you have it, despite what the likes of daft Daphne thinks most people aren't rolling in spare cash!

So government provides low / zero interest loans, enforces solar cell installations on house purchases (*). Within a few years it'll be time to replace my oil boiler (I use 300l / year) so will look at heat pumps then.

~50 years ago government provided low cost or even free (I think) heating for houses which just had a coal fire, I remember my mother took advantage of this.

* When a house changes hands the new purchases should be legally obliged to install solar cells if the roof orientation is suitable.

No you wouldn't - just search the spec of consumer storage heaters.

Wouldn't it be great if there was an unexpected windfall to fund that, not just for private housing, but public housing?

Imagine what landlords will do if they have to install the new tech without govt assistance?

Government doesn't need a windfall, and any profit from gas extraction isn't going to happen quickly.

You really place too much confidence in the elected buffoonery.

Yes. Government doesn't need a windfall to spend money, they'll do what they want.

Priority 1: TT

Priority 2: ...

Priority 1: Government

Priority 2: Government's Mates (TT being but one avenue)

Priority 3: Everybody else?
