Lots of asbestos in these buildings is just left in situ as it is fixed and trapped in a matrix, i.e. floor tiles are a good example. so long as you don't disturb them and release the material into the air you are fine. Also a lot depends on the type of asbestos crystals as some are far more hazardous than others.

Methods and testing have vastly improved over the years but removal and disposal are time consuming, expensive and can sometimes create more problems than they solve.

If it did get removed it would only end up buried at the Point of ayre in orange bin bags!
