Ramseyboi
Looks awesome. Get it built. Any flooding issues (which can be overcome in the design and build) will be the developers issue and if they are happy to take the risk with their own money by building them to sell then let them crack on and provide work for all the trades and new homes for people who want them, with the beneficiary of some hospitality facilities as well. Stop complaining about everything and let them crack on.
Ramseyboi
Jeez. If centreparcs were prepared to build a huge development near Ramsey with all hospitality outsourced to local businesses, and free travel to the island for anyone wanting to stay there the people of Ramsey would still complain. You're happy building it on a flood plain? Any measures to keep the water off there will force the problem up or down stream and make it worse elsewhere. Ramseyboi
People build on areas that might flood a couple of times a year all the time. It is not like it is metres of water. Even Ramsey Wilf has just been on Mannin Line saying he is in favour as long as the raise the ground level a bit

Let them crack on with it. It just doesn't seem wise. But I wait to be proven right/wrong. Ramsey Wilf? Is he still knocking about?!
hissingsid
Yes he was on Mannin Line and he said the housing and road would need lifting a lot, he mentioned he could supply the rubble if required 🤣 .

Those in Laxey were existing and down to DoI/contractor negligence/incompotence. Again caveat emptor.

Then after the first flooding they'll be in the same boat (or not) as the people in Laxey, rinse and repeat.

But of course you will, because if it is built and then anti-flood measures are required, who is going to pay for them but the taxpayer? Stu Peters
I know it's one of my pet tinfoil hat topics, but does nobody else see a complete disconnect between this (and similar proposals) and the clear and present danger (allegedly) of climate change and rising sea levels? 1
