City of Douglas

Gerry Dean who was a real character used to bring his black Labrador in and one of the security guys pulled him up about it so he went to the front desk and bought the dog a membership  for a year it was a very well behaved hound.   We seem to have lost all the characters that used to be around Douglas.   Happy Days indeed.

It really was the place to go in the day, Cabaret, live music everyone dressed up that is when the Americans ran it.   The membership was five pounds a year.

If you didn’t have membership, you filled in the form at the door. One of the questions was your employment. So many nuclear scientist and surgeons used to visit the Casino…

People could go for a night out and be done by 1:00am.

The police were given a hell of a job when closing time happened, and the constabulary were instrumental in greying out the closing time and spreading the load.

But 3:30am is taking the piss.

These days it is a case of tanking up on cheap booze around one of the houses, maybe take a line or two, or a tab of e and hit the 'clubs' (ie Jaks and 1886) and demand the market stays open to suit.

I'm told by a friend of a friend's daughter that 1886 is the place of choice for any narcotics and how the owner and licencee have managed to evade conviction is a mystery, or may be not.

So, all we need to do to close the drug trade down is revoke 1886's license?

The place gives younger people a place to go out, they've pushed the boat out with these gigs.

And yes, where younger people congregate in groups, especially with young males in their peacock stage, there will be misbehaviour.

So what, we encourage the young people to stay on island by closing down lively venues. God knows, they are in short supply as it is.

Give it a rest.

Well it seems to be a field office of the police and ambulance service most weekends. Surprised they don’t have cars stationed down there by now to cut down response times. Probably comes with being a popular place, as do other issues. Paramount toilets looked like a snow storm went through after some nights. You could always tell the plain clothes plod though, at least if you were sober and working behind the bar. Guessing they’ll be happily mingling in 1886 as well.

What a lot mad of crap.  Just like most things that come from a friend of a friend.

@andyonchan is quite right. The place is awash with the stuff. Most local people are aware of that. You seem to be in a very long trolling mission this week.

It's not me that's saying how it is, it's a 20 something year old. I'm just putting it out there that is it known as a place to go to get your fix (if you're into that kind of thing).

It's well known. Plod know about it, members of the licensed trade know it and so do the youngsters. Not known as  Eighteen Eighty sniff for the pleasing aromatic air fresheners....
