You don’t have to wear a mask on public transport, nobody has the right to question an exemption status, it’s just that most people comply without question.

The first line of this link seems to suggest otherwise...

Face coverings are mandatory on public transport and in health and care settings. They are strongly advised in crowded or indoor spaces, especially where ventilation is not good.

It’s there in black and white underneath what you’ve just linked to

If you have an age, health or disability reason for not wearing a face covering you do not need to show:

  • any written evidence of this
  • an exemption card

This means that you do not need to seek advice or request a letter from a medical professional about your reason for not wearing a face covering.

So if someone doesn’t want to wear a face mask they just have to say they’re exempt and nobody has the right to question/challenge them.

perhaps not, but they can probably be denied access/transport/travel by the driver if they are not wearing a mask.   not the same thing but the same result.

And that would be disability ( a protected characteristic ) discrimination. With all that could bring.

Would BV take that chance?

More importantly, would a bus driver take the chance? It's not like BV have a track record in backing up their staff, quote the opposite in fact.

It's just another one of those laws which, like LFTs for UK arrivals here, is ultimately completely unenforceable. The only benefit to the law is getting most people to mostly comply for the sake of an easy life.

And this is why John I went on radio and emailed our elected representatives and voiced my concerns. Nothing to do with law, human rights, exemptions etc should be just thrown out there and expect it to be understood by ALL. Even on here there are different ideas and opinions on what all this means.

It’s really simple, Barry. Mask wearing in a taxi is compulsory, you, as driver, are entitled, indeed required, to refuse to carry if they don’t, and won’t, wear one. However, if, when challenged, the response is that the fare is exempt you have to carry, come what may.
