But it was the case then if those passengers at Heysham had checked in then they are in effect 'in journey' and the SP would have an obligation for their welfare.

Well, no one would be have been checked in at Heysham for the cancelled return. 

Not sure what the mix of passengers on board IoM-HEY that didn’t get into Heysham would have been. But given time of year the betting would be mainly Manx who just return home after 9 hours cruising Morecambe Bay and hanging in Lune Deeps

Why? It's not like the island's favourite HNWI is short of a bob or two.

I'd rather they did Liverpool properly as a year-round port and left the hulking ruins of Heysham well alone. The place is miles from anywhere and has one train a day, useless.

You also have to question the Steam Packet's decision making. The forecast was that the fog was in for the day, so what was the point in doing the crossing? All it means is passengers have to schlep to Heysham and wait, knowing fine well the boat won't go but having to go and check in just in case, instead of being able to stay at home/wherever.

Yes I see.

Would the poor buggers that sailed all the way to Heysham and then back to Douglas then back to Heysham have been given a free cuppa to ease their misery?

There are delayed arrival rules as well. So they should have been given appropriate refreshments.

Liverpool is also going to be absolutely useless for freight. Unless the Government are going to try the old chestnut favoured by developers where they build it and then lobby for loosening of planning conditions.

 

If the Steam Packet hadn't tried to sail then people would be accusing them of trying to save money by cancelling sailings.

....but if the SP canceled sailings they would have to give a refund??? Not everyone would re-book because their travel window had closed, so the SP would lose money by canx'g???

Not sure if not docking requires a refund?

Their contract is to get you from A to B. Not A to nearly B and back to A. You’d still be entitled to a refund or a refund or rebook at no extra.

Steam Packet has been the very best at flexibility and allowing change and/or cancellation and/or refund when compared to other operators.
