Sixteen lanes of traffic crawl through that bottleneck making about 7 km in about 45 min. People easily blow 3 hours/day commuting, I would say, on average. Prior to work from home, I would drive late at night or prior to 5am to halve the time. Drivers/auto enthusiasts actually initially welcomed the lockdown because we had never been able to drive empty streets. Count your blessings Manx islanders. Hang on, you must have heard of Quarterbridge??

But we only had any holdups during TT week , the DOI seem determined to grind everything to a halt comming into Douglas , its time they brought some proper traffic management specialists in and go rid of the pelican crossings ,replaced them with zebra crossings , and had the traffic lights updated so at least they worked in sequence with each other and allowed a decent flow , the promenade has not helped as many motorists now avoid it so traffic builds up on Quarterbridge and Glenclutchery roads causing tailbacks right through Onchan Village which has become another no go area from the Corkills roundabout to the Manx arms traffic lights
