Amadeus
Set up to develop brown field sites. Sounds like a good idea. Thoughts?

Another costly government quango that will produce next to nothing in the real world but will cost a small fortune. 4
TomTucker
Developers love greenfield sites because theres no demolition or clearing just straight in with the groundwork. This needs to stop, Douglas is in a state and the Corp and DEFA Planning need to come up with a plan to resolve it before Ballafletcher Road is touched. 5
hissingsid
The Government already own brown field sites, Park Road, The old prison, the nurses home etc and are doing nothing with them. All these sites would be ideal for Social housing if this happened it would ease the housing situation and give people a decent place to live instead of paying ridiculous rents to greedy landlords. Buying a house is something that a lot of hardworking people will never afford it just isn’t the price of the houses it is the upkeep of the buildings, rates etc. Years ago most people rented only the well off people owned their own houses but now young people are told they must go to Uni, must buy their own property etc. both of which paths are unsuitable for some. People deserve a decent roof over their heads, decent health care and education this is why we pay tax. Even low paid workers pay tax when they buy petrol or any goods that attract VAT.
A fool and his money.....
Housing needs to be seen as the basic human necessity that it is, rather than an investment opportunity to make the rich even richer that it has become. 9
english zloty
So far costing £250K to sit in Dandara twiddling thumbs. Just advertised for a senior project manager (£60k) so maybe then something will get done to spend the further (£600k) they've been given (from Facebook in response to question from CT). They could have a really nice social housing development on demesne road as government own nurses home, old school & Jane crookall sites & should buy the garage & James Caine sites & link them all in. Also no reason lord street flats couldn’t be refurbished, similar to what a private developer is doing in cronkbourne village with 180 years old properties
Non-Believer
What did Douglas 2000 achieve? What does the Douglas Development Partnership do? What will this new body do for the money it will absorb, £124k to start with so far? 4

Oh.... and perhaps a bit of advertising in the local rags to tell everyone how hard they're working and how wonderful things will be. That is all.

You can't be serious. Soviet style housing complex refurbished. Come on. Its a worthless, poorly built pile of crap. Needs knocking down. No one should be expected to live in squalid conditions like that in 2022.

I have no idea what is going on at cronkbourne but they should be demolished too. They were not designed for the modern world, and no amount of retrofitting is going to change that. They could be refurbished and made bigger & made available at reasonable rents for younger singles, couples who want to be in centre of Douglas and aren’t that bothered about outside aesthetics , if that’s not feasible then yes demolition
