In their place was a donkey, a cart full of potatoes and two old women behind with sweeping brushes.

You sure they weren't Ukrainian Special Forces Tank Destruction Battalion, supplied with NATO exploding potatoes?

I heard reports last night that the defenders of the Steel Factory have surrendered.

Not sure what's happening at the moment, but certainly they haven't been heard from since yesterday morning.

Well, Putin's forces have captured a bunch of "Nazis" at the steel factory.

So what will he do with them? Show trials purely for propaganda purposes strictly for the masses perhaps.

I think the Marines and the other Regiments might be released/exchanged fairly smoothly.

Unfortunately for the Azov Battalion guys, with all the propaganda that has been spouted about them being Nazis, they're not going to have a good time.  It will play right into Putin's hands and he will milk it for everything it's worth.

I don't think anyone is against Russia or the Russian people, it's their ludicrous regime which keeps them in some imaginary war which only exists because they are being kept in fear! This won't be resolved in a short timescale, intelligent Russians are getting out as they see no long term future. Those left behind will be easily manipulated by Putin and his successors for many years.

I doubt Putin will be alive for many years

I trust they are Self Propelled Guns (SPGs) and not towed. Because these days armies have MAMBA - MOBILE ARTILLERY MONITORING BATTLEFIELD RADAR. Iirc a narrow beam radar that can detect mortar, artillery and missile launches and instantly calculate where they came from and direct counter battery fire accordingly.

So you put your SPGs in position, fire off a couple of salvos and then execute the military manoeuvre known as RLF before a cruise missile turns up and obliterates your Gun Position. Set up elsewhere and repeat.

Of course, to be effective systems like that require first rate Command and Control integration which fortunately the Russians seem to very much lack.

I watched something last night about the Ukrainian Artillery.  It was mindblowing.

Usually with the counter battery radar etc, the Russians could pinpoint where they are being hit from.

However, now with drones, serious command and control software networks and the hardware supplied by NATO, the Ukrainians can and are hitting the Russians from multiple artillery emplacements at once making it virtually impossible for them go get a bead on where they are being hit from.

All that technology being outwitted by a foil blanket...

Who would have thought they'd pay attention to the headwaters of conspiracy theorist! 😃

Electric motorbikes for the sniper teams have been a genius move as well.

The Donbas is ideal AFV terrain and therefore the Ukrainians are losing men, material and ground. Lots of. Because of the Russian tactic of heavy artillery stonks followed by AFV column attacks on what's left. Basically the classic Russian strategy that has served them well in the past.

US Himars (High mobility artillery rocket systems) en route to Ukraine have been put forward as a game changer.

But politics seems to have diluted the actual response and use:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/jun/02/bidens-pledge-to-send-rocket-systems-to-ukraine-is-no-silver-bullet

They are still going to be very useful though...

There are some interesting news posts and videos breaking from ( mainly ) Ukrainian on line alternative news resources reporting that Putin suffered catastrophic injury during an operation to remove a tumour and is now on life support.

It may be propaganda. It’s not been confirmed by any major news agency.

There are also reports from Russian internal opposition sources that Navaly has disappeared within the penal system and was not made available/produced  to meet with his lawyers for  a scheduled meeting earlier.

If true let's hope he is replaced by someone more reasonable who will end this madness.

This is disturbing but hardly unexpected.
