But for all the death, destruction and torturous progress they are still grinding ever westward. For all the sacrifice, I really don't see any good end to this. Putin really is very bad medicine. His own government is scared shitless of him.

The nodding donkeys of the Duma? Putin has turned the conflict from a blitzkrieg that failed into a war of attrition. Simply because that's a war that Russia, with it's enormous human stockpile, can win and Putin knows it. Zelensky will be visiting Washington with a plan to win the war. But if Trump gets in all is lost for Ukraine...

Presumably his favoured course will be to drive the invader out of all Ukraine, but this is obviously not going to happen. As you say, Putin knows he can win a war of attrition, and there is no rush for him to do anything other than what he's doing.

They are too well dug in and there are too many of them. Nothing is going to change anytime soon unless something extraordinary happens (it still might though). One thing is for sure. Russia's future literal and metaphorical fortunes are only going one way.

Chinahand
Really serious news that North Korea is going to directly join the conflict. Terrible terrible escalation. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3vkqwe9wwdo Goodness what makes people want to start wars.

Chinahand
Don't underestimate what 10K fresh troops could do. Ukraine is very hard pushed at the moment and a collapse of the line at some point along the 1000s of kilometers they have to defend isn't impossible. It is so sad that their years of sacrifice is genuinely at risk.

There have now been years of suffering and sacrifice, and there is nothing to suggest any prospect other than more years of the same, with or without North Korea. It's obvious that Russia will continue to grind their way across the entire territory. I'm not sure what alternative outcome you foresee.
