£62,881- £71,345 according to the Courier.  Obviously you can't expect the actual Chief Officer (Environmental) of one of the world's great megacities like Douglas to do anything - they're far too important for that.

FFS that’s literally a ludicrous salary. If that’s the Deputy I wonder what the head is on? F**king ludicrous detached from reality post. Running a couple of bin wagons and supplies.

Think you’re all misconstruing the job description. There isn’t a Chief Officer ( Environment ).

This post is head of “Environmental” services.

Chief Officer with be the Town Clerk position. Then the heads of the various operational divisions will be Assistant Chief Officer followed by the departmental name. 

Of course the Council website is silent about the identity of its Chief Officer, or heads and descriptions of the various departments. Totally opaque. Suspect they’ll claim GDPR, but it’s a nonsense excuse. 

Come on @Amadeus get it sorted in the name of transparency, openness, etc.

Technically the ACO(E) isn't assistant to a Chief Officer (Environmental), but the job description make it clear that they are there to 'support' the Director of Environment and Regeneration who is one of the three Directors who report to the CEO/Town Clerk.

This is most likely a remarkably naive and stupid question, but if the Town Clerk is the Chief Officer - which makes sense -  and this post is for Assistant Chief Officer (Environment) - which also makes sense -  then where in the hierarchy does the Director of Environment and Regeneration sit?  (ie the person this Assistant Chief is meant to be supporting.)

So the director sits between the chief officer and assistant chief officer?

 

Edit:  So in the absence of the Chief Officer, to whom do the directors report.  An Assistant?  Or is there also a Deputy?

Paul Cowin is the Deputy Town Clerk  has been for years , it would be good to see a corporation hierarchy   and a list of officers and  salaries , and now they have received City status , will the NALGO rates of pay have to be increased , to reflect this , we live in interesting and often wasteful times

will the public toilets be free for the day or are we expected to pay 20 pence for a pee  cant work the city fathers out Strand street is filthy and stinks of dog and human piss  and it should be washed down . they have the equipment to do it , but I suppose they couldn't be arsed ,or are they waiting for the environmental services manager to be appointed , also if they ran a brush and washed down the children's play area on Loch promenade , they could easily have that open for the school holidays , we will wait forever for the walls to rebuilt after the storm damage  the gardens are a disgrace the parks department has gone native !

So much anger. May I suggest Yoga or a change in diet? Or stop by on Sunday and talk to me. You don't even have to tell me who you are. I know some people prefer internet anonymity, especially in a place as small as the IOM, and I'm ok with that. I'll be there for most of the day, willing to listen.

Got to say Strand street particularly around bins is terrible . And yes you can smell piss in many areas and some kind soul let there dog defacate in Castle street today which some poor shopper managed to stand in. Needs lots of areas jet washed down for sure. Not a good image but it seems like this is now the norm.

To be fair to DBC nothing short of the biblical final conflagration will cleanse Lower Douglas.

So what is happening to the rates we pay then ?. Seems theres a full house of desk jobs but just about zero boots on the ground . Rates went up this year again and your can bet they will go up again in April and yet zero care carried out around our streets. Bins heading for a two week empty too.

Just like big government all income streams are now diverted to great swathes of over inflated salary's leaving little or nothing for actual public services!
