I heard a bit of a beaut today, that a city councillor had been 'advised' to resign from the housing committee because he is a council tenant? That socialist scamp, chairman Watson apparently agreed? What a strange affair, someone who knows the issues first hand is perceived to have a vested interest, I would have thought he would be an asset to the committee!

It probably serves Devon Watson’s purpose to solicit sympathy for his ridiculous views. He seems to be a monstrous left wing cock womble.

how can a South African ,single,  get on the housing list in the first place , something needs investigating ,

Likely by being a noisy, irritating, pain in the ass that nobody wants to say no to otherwise it will be splattered all over social media for everyone to read.

That would be a great story if it were true.

Checking the council website he appears to live in a shared bedsit.

So either it's untrue or the council website is out of date.

You heard wrong. Council house tenants can and are on the housing committee. As am I. Nobody was advised to resign. However, initial advice, or communication, could have been better as some members were under the impression they couldn’t be on the committee if they are council tenants until they checked it themselves. Naturally, if you discuss or vote on something that directly concerns where you live then there are rules on declaring interests. This can be tricky at times and lead to all sorts of wrong stories making the rounds. As always, my email and those of all other councillors are public. As are our phone numbers. Get in touch and ask.

I see they’re all now “Douglas City” councillors on social media. Makes me laugh every time I read the title. Delusions of grandeur.

If they put anything else it'd be factually incorrect?

Also I thoroughly enjoy how many feathers Devon is able to ruffle simply by existing. Inspirational stuff.

Yes we’re city councillors now because it’s a city. Big deal.

Actually you're not.  It doesn't become officially a city till the 'letters patent' are handed over and that is usually done at some sort of royal visit.  As Tynwald day failed to attract even any C-list Royals, you'll just have to wait till they decide they can trust the flights.

Will the City of Douglas be getting a 'Lord Mayor'?
