copycat
see planning application in this week's Courier - 07/01222B - creation of temporary car park pending approval/commencement of phase 2 of residential development, vacant area over phase 1 basement car park, Former Garage and Sawmills Site Lake Road Isn't it funny how Copycat remembers a post thread from September 2005, when he didn't register till December 2006 and yet constantly claims that he's never been MCB or anyone else? try using the search facility before you post up a new thread in case there has ever been a one on the same subject - maybe you don't know how to use it - numpty. thebees
It seems such a waste knocking buildings down all the time, especially when they will be replaced by cardboard shelled 'disposable housing'. It would be nice if they could integrate the old buildings with the new ones, guess this is not a financially viable option to greedy developers. I am aware that the buildings down by the river were just old warehouses, but, they were rather nice and had interesting features..I will bet the new luxury apartments will be devoid of anything even close to interesting. What is happening with Rileys? Thats a really nice building, Im very fond of the old pulleys on the Quay side buildings they have a certain 'quaintness' to them, would be a shame to see them go, but Im guessing by the boarding its high on the JCK hit list. Surely this is demolition and redevelopment, who are they kidding (apart from the planners).
Max Power
We have very little in the way of interesting architecture left on the Island and our planners seem hell bent on getting rid of everything! That Rileys building is a link to the past when the inner harbour was bustling, another sad loss I say!
Amadeus
Nearly all gone now - wrecking stuff looks like fun Debris and pieces of glass falling into the river where the swans usually are doesn't look so good, though
Tempus Fugit
Amadeus has a new outlook on the world ! from previous comments it's not quite as historic building as imagined, (not an old warehouse at the front anyway) (pic courtesy of Amadeus )

hboy
I personally believe that this will provide a massive benefit to the area and enhance the appearance of that end of the Quay. Yes. I to believe that another several hundred empty apartments that nobody who lives here can afford is exactly what that part of Douglas needs. Just think of all the benefits that come from filling Douglas with empty apartments:- No parking problems as no bugger lives there, they're environmentally friendly because the heating is never put on, and of course no dogshit on the pavements. Its win win for Douglas really. You've also got the benefit of the new cycle path through that proposed complex so you can ride through at night sately guided by the five lights that are left on in each block.
