I still don't know. I'd know if had been at Castle Rushen though, I'd have made it my business to know. Sex education of children is obviously a pretty tricky subject to get right, and I know its all going to happen to mine soon. I think I dread the idea of him growing up really, I liked him little and am apprehensive of his upcoming teenage years, so no doubt there's a little of that in my thinking. I do feel though that things are being pushed a bit too far, and that people are being forced to accept things they're not too keen on.

I do feel though that things are being pushed a bit too far, and that people are being forced to accept things they're not too keen on. Understand that completely. My granddaughter will soon be 10, yet there are girls in her class that have started menstruating, apparently. They do physically mature much earlier now, probably to do with better nutrition and health care, ie not so many illnesses to make them 'sickly'. Maturity is not quite so obvious in boys, but they probably are reaching the stage where changes are happening. For that reason, it is hard to argue against age appropriate sex education. Their bodies are already maturing, hiding the facts is not going to stop that process so better to inform them in an age appropriate, mature and sympathetic way.

I also get the point about consent and being able to recognise that abuse is wrong. 16+ is too late to deliver sex education classes in my view especially when you consider that 16 is the age of consent and that most children that age will have undoubtedly have had access to an internet enabled device and have access to porn. It really is difficult to know exactly when and what content is appropriate to deliver to children but we have to acknowledge that we live in a society which right up until the "me too" movement would be happy to go with the statement that "sex sells". hissingsid
Other teachers at this school must have been aware of these lessons and of the presence of a Drag Queen and said nothing it does seem strange that out of the whole staff there was not one with any kind of moral compass if the disputed lessons and Drag Queens contribution took place . I know children can exaggerate but they do not usually lie and make tales of this magnitude up.

You can bet it was discussed in the Staff Room. 1

Thomas Dalby
I find the Daily Mail article keeping Alfie’s mother’s name anonymous rather weird when Fenella Carter is claiming on Facebook that it is her son https://www.manxforums.com/forums/index.php?/topic/61940-interesting/
TheTeapot
Age appropriate is a fun term, so is the argument "they're going to get exposed to this kind of stuff anyway". When do they let a junkie in to show them how to cook up? Or a mixologist to show how to make a Manhattan? About the only even slightly positive thing about this story is that it will hopefully make parents think. It's certainly made me think. Drugs are everywhere, they seem to be prevalent at a younger age than they were when I was a kid too. We'd be trying to get hold of a bottle of Thunderbird or Mad Dog 20/20 at 15, now it's ket. Our drug 'education' basically consisted of drugs are bad mkay, which turned out to be nonsense as soon as that first brew kicked in. I wonder what they teach the kids nowadays? Communication from the school, apart from when they're trying to flog something, is a bit weak.
