Sex education and religion

All the people involved are local, Minister of Education, Head Teacher, Teachers, parents and children so how long does it take to interview them ?    Meanwhile the Island is getting publicity of the very wrong sort.   I wonder who Batman and Robin are and how far they are getting on with this, I assume they will be getting paid.   It could drag on until the TT or some other excitement  is taking place.    It needs to be nipped  in the bud before it gets on morning TV that is the next step. It has already been referred to in the House of Commons.    Whatever next.

It was talked about on Good morning Britain on Friday, although that Labour MP woman tried to shut the conversation down sharpish!

That's a good question bur we're not being allowed to know.  There was a piece on the MR website on Friday, originally titled DESC U-Turn on Providing More Information About RSE Investigation, but now toned down to  Investigation into RSE curriculum ongoing, presumably after they complained (but of course the URL gives the game away):

Further details have yet to be provided about an independent external investigation into the Relationships and Sex Education Advisory Curriculum.

On 1 March The Department of Education confirmed that an investigation would be looking at concerns about the delivery of the curriculum within secondary schools.

At the time, the department said investigators would produce a report which would ‘ascertain the facts of the situation’ and any appropriate action which may need to be undertaken.

Manx Radio asked the DESC to provide more information about the investigation, the terms of reference for it and to provide details of the people appointed to carry it out.

We also asked if the investigators – believed to be a former police officer and a lawyer – have started yet and whether parents, teachers and children would be interviewed by them.

Additionally Manx Radio asked when the report is expected to be compiled by and for details of the number of ‘malicious accusations and comments’ which the DESC has referred to the police.

The Department of Education, Sport and Culture says it will not be commenting further until the investigation is complete.

In a statement the DESC added: “The safeguarding and wellbeing of all our students is of paramount importance.

“Following concerns being raised around the relationships and sex education (RSE) curriculum, the DESC has paused RSE lessons in all primary and secondary schools, while an external independent investigation is carried out.

“The report will establish the facts and ascertain any appropriate action the department may need to undertake.”

In an appearance on Manx Radio Breakfast last week, Chief Minister Alfred Cannan urged people to avoid speculation.

(Copied in  full in case it is disappeared as well)

Thank you Roger, the only way to avoid speculation is to get the full facts published , warts and all, if there are any of course , and it will not be viewed as virtue signalling as it is being at the moment by a lot of people.    Kicking cans into the grass, sweeping things under carpets are the usual way things have been done over the years and you cannot blame the public for some cynicism.   Open and transparent…..would be nice.

What an absolute balls up. As soon as something major happens within a government organisation a statement should be issued to stop the escalation of rumour. I have no idea why the headteacher at QEll wasn’t able to ask the teacher in charge what happened and issue at the very least a statement to quell the baying mob. It was obvious to anyone that without it there was going to be massive speculation. An enquiry could have come later, yes, but straight away the first thing to be done is to let people know what the truth is.

Keeping quiet and closing doors was the worst thing they could have done. Keeping quiet and closing doors and telling people not to speculate (in threatening tones) was the second worst.

And now look…
