So you're not bothered kids are being taught anal and oral sex, or that drag queen's are brought into schools to teach a lesson and kicking kids out of lessons? Teachers, who don't feel it appropriate to teach these lessons, are being told they must do so?

If you're not bothered then you're just weired and I'm guessing don't have kids.

I'm supportive of appropriate education on sexual and relationship matters, but the ages involved and the content do not align

You are making lots of assumptions.

Which year is this taught to? My young fella is year 7, that's 11/12yr olds, he's still a kid, i'd prefer them to wait a few years please.

It’s quite clever how they have tried to frame that YouTube interview. The bits on things like anal sex and fisting clearly apply to an older (16 ish) age group if you listen to what is said carefully. But she clearly tries to suggest that it’s used for a younger audience. In fact it’s worth watching the clip just to see a 43 year old woman smirk when saying the word fisting to an interviewer,

I may be an old prude, but teaching 12 year olds about anal sex seems a bit much.

This is the curriculum:

https://rshp.scot/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Sex-Masturbation-Oral-Anal-sex-Activity-plan.pdf

If you actually follow that link it clearly says "Level: SENIOR" and another part of the RHSP site defines this as: Learning at this Level is likely to be for young people in S4, S5 and S6 at school, in college or other means of study.  In Scotland S4-6 are equivalent to Years 11 -13 in the English/IOM system (Scots traditionally go to university at 17), so clearly we're talking about the oldest group of students.

Anyone claiming this is designed to be taught to 11 year-olds is either very ignorant of how education operates or very dishonest.  And of course the document contains nothing about fisting, but teenagers in those age groups are very likely to have come across all sorts of things on the internet and those providing such education are going to have to deal with all sorts of questions.  Screaming that they're all going to burn in Hell may not be effective.

Internet porn was around but as it was still in the dial up era was not so easily available and not such an issue.

You were still lucky.

Me and my peers had to hang around outside the newsagents until it was empty, rush in, grab a magazine off the top shelf and pay for it, all the while hoping that nobody else would enter the shop during the process

I don’t think it’s so much they are being taught these practices, more that they are being taught about them.

I guess everyone has their own ideas as to what age this is appropriate.

There was none of this when I was at school though and I don’t think it was any the worse for that.

We have been told not to speculate by the Minister.

No, Minister, the people who elected you will speculate as much as they wish.  This is a matter of considerable concern and most people want to know exactly what is happening.  Has it has been sensationalised and blown out of proportion, or are there genuine issues?

It would be good to hear first hand from some teachers,  but that ain't going to happen is it?

The only way to stop speculation is to complete your review quickly and publish the findings and recommendations openly and honestly.

This is either a shocking abuse of the DESC powers, or an overblown and sensationalised misreporting of the truth.

Very good point, doubt they are being taught how to, more awareness, you would hope.

As for the story of putting a condom on a wooden dildo, it was probably a wooden model of a penis used to demonstrate, not a sex toy.  Just like during the AIDS education process, there were demonstrations of how to put a condom on a cucumber.  We had a lot of safe salads in the 80s.

Our elected representatives are so sanctimonious.

For those defending this, we're given the example of a young girl being told to put a condom on a  wooden dildo in front of a group of boys. Some may see it as empowering, seems the girl didn't.
