Looks like I'm wrong, top up your key and it updates the unit price, so doing it before the rise might actually work. You wouldn't put it past them to make it happen early though. Wonder if it is clever enough to book the rise in in advance.

Now apparently after having got confirmation from the companies and the regulator, it turns out that Lewis was wrong (or to be exact misled) after all and at least some of the companies can and will charge the new rate, even if you pre-load:

Interesting comments from Chris Thomas in Tynwald.  The MUA are subsidising business electricity customers by 8 times the amount they are subscribing the general population.  Wow.  Chairman Rob flapping and getting frustrated that someone would dare to question the preferential treatment received by businesses.

The manufacturing companies have probably threatened to leave without subsidies! Isn’t IOM government the biggest consumer?

If businesses as what you are suggesting are getting preferential rates at the detriment to General consumers, perhaps their prices should be monitored and made aware if they increase their prices under the guise of increased energy costs. Whilst it is accepted to be true, and can’t be helped, some sectors of our society want their cake, they want to eat it as well, and they want the moon to boot.
