Police have charged a 65-year-old man after the death of Carolyn Buchan earlier this month.

The man, who has not been named, will appear in Court in the morning.

Police said: ‘Today at 3:52pm a 65yr old Male from the Douglas area has been charged with the following offences in relation to the death of Carolyn Buchan.

Causing Death by Driving without Due Care and Attention

Failing to Stop at the scene of an accident

Failing to Report an Accident.

Police have also confirmed that the people arrested on March 21 for these same offences, whom were on police bail, have today been formally released from police bail, with no further action being taken

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Newey has stated: ‘This investigation has been the priority of the constabulary to establish the circumstances surrounding how and why Caroyln Buchan died in Marathon Avenue on Sunday 20th March and to find those responsible. This has been a complex investigation with numerous lines of enquiries involving CCTV, following up on information provided by the Manx public and specialist scientific support from the UK. All of this has come together to allow us to charge a 65yr old man for these offences. My thoughts remain with the family and friends of Carolyn at this time.’

Interesting how, now the police think it's a pensioner who killed her, that the charge gets downgraded from death by dangerous driving.

Is it that he is a pensioner or because there isn't sufficient evidence to support the higher charge?

What intrigues me more is that he hasn't been named, (not sure of the rules, but I thought a name is released on charging).  I suppose he will when he make his first court appearance.

Nope the police never release any names the only time names are released is if there's a reporter in the court.

Whatever your thoughts on this, from now on please keep them to yourself. Case is sub judice. I’m sure you don’t want to prejudice the prosecution by posting anything stupid. If you feel tempted you post on Facebook, using your own name, and give the page moderators there the headache.

No. They get the court list. So there doesn’t need to be a reporter present.

The police used to release names in the bad old days, but no longer.

No, he said, if you are tempted to be a complete cock, use Facebook, not Manx Forums.  There are enough cocks on Manx Forums to do enough damage as it is, without resorting to commenting on court cases - again.
