The official celebrations will take place over the extended bank holiday from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5th, but events are encouraged between April and September as well. Community or voluntary groups and local charities can claim up to £1,000 for an event, while each of the Island's local authorities can get up to £5,000. I think it is smart thinking on behalf of the Isle of Man Government. It means that overall they can spend a lot less than if they put on events for the population, and it also saves them the almost certain embarrassment and public criticism when they make a right royal mess of it.
