so how  difficult has it become to import a few chickens into the Isle of man  from the UK   why do the faragher's need an import licence  after all these years , and are we regulating this island to death , perhaps someone involved with agriculture can let us know ?

More to the point, what's changed?  Laying hens have their most productive lifespan for their first laying year, so importing new pullets (ie 16 week old chickens about to start laying) must be a fairly regular occurrence.  The Facebook post from Faragher's states:

The original way of shipping pullets to the Island is now no longer an option to us, the shipping company would need to get an importation license, they are in discussion with the Government about this, but there is no guarantee that they will get it. Getting new laying birds in is time sensitive, we need them now.

Is this to do with the new boat?  Does every vessel have to be separately licenced for each sort of livestock?  The only other change is the takeover of Shoprite which must make a lot of producers local nervous.

Yes, I did wonder that, but introducing occasional new stock, possibly a new cockerel, every now and then would help, you would think.

It's not so much about inbreeding as producing the most reliable and productive layers and that's done by specialist suppliers.  If you breed your own you're always going to get some birds which are less productive, fine if you're doing it as a hobby but not commercially.  For a business you need to get around 300 eggs a year from a hen, obviously only 200 won't be anything like enough.

It’s clearly just more over regulation.

Bordello (looks like it didn't work out for the guy who had Truth, and before that Attraversiamo, now Ravioli House, in Ramsey).

See it's saying closed until further notice.

Definitely gone?

Did seem like a bit of a strange plan given the history/current usage.

Obviously not as it states Mezeron were shipping company, it’s to do with licensing

damn,  where will we get trophies engraved and watch batteries changed now ?

It’s well worth popping into their dismal closing down sale to see why the business is closing. One small sign up outside suggesting some items are up to 50% off, can’t be arsed putting sale tags on anything so all items are advertised at full price, then anything you might be interested in when you make an enquiry isn't anywhere near 50% off.
