I would imagine that could be covered within one of the other MNH buildings in Castletown without giving a whole building over to it? It can’t see there would be many people using it I can't argue the case for this choice, just what I understand an interpretation centre is. Often when you go to see a historical site, you learn much about the site but not how it sits with the local area and other local sites. Used to spend a lot of time around Hastings and Battle. Lots of really historical sites there, but at that time there wasn't a 'joined up, cogent' story to understand the full context of the history of the area.
Passing Time
10 minutes ago, CrazyDave said: So just answer the question, and explain why it needs to be one building that MNH own? There are reasons this place has so few active posters, and one of them is a perception by the general population that certain members think they are above everyone else and like to belittle them and be smug and pedantic at every opportunity . Prove them wrong. Just explain what you are on about. Thanks He just can't help himself...

Roger Mexico
1 hour ago, John Wright said: They’ve sold that to the family that own half of central Castletown as accommodation and restaurants and Bushy’s. It’s going to be their reception. It's not been sold but leased for that purpose: The former police station will become a hub for a number of local hotels, bars and restaurants due to private investment by Marlinspike Limited. It will remain publically accessible, with one of the old offices and cells being managed by Castletown Commissioners and made available for community use. To the rear, a poorly constructed 1980’s flat roof extension is to be demolished to create a rear courtyard and appropriate backstreet connection between Parliament Square and the Quarterdeck. Thats where the pompous/ conceited comes in. Edited November 20, 2023 by The Voice of Reason Addition of last para

Roger Mexico
3 hours ago, John Wright said: MNH have long wanted it as an interpretation centre and gift shop. Do they still though? After all they already have three buildings in Castletown which they can't afford to keep open regularly: the Nautical Museum, the Old House of Keys and the Old Grammar School. One of those could be used as an Interpretation Centre, the OGS would probably be best suited. There's already a gift shop inside Castle Rushen.
