Lots of goodwill. Established customer base. Trade agreements and accounts. Established bank account and credit terms with suppliers if you buy the ltd co? Vehicles? Sounds reasonable for someone to me assuming the business has been breaking even as they are probably retiring.

Just nowhere to operate from as I understand it unless you have alternative premises.

Exactly, so either find a new premises or merge with an existing business. No big deal, and why it’s so cheap

There is no call for that anymore and therefore no need for normal pubs to go to before you go to a nightclub. Going to the pub from work, before you go home is also something that is not done anymore, or if it is, its only 50+ year olds that do as younger wives/ partners won't put up with it like they did in the "Good old Days" 🙂 Pubs, like snail mail are a 20th Century thing. Except they have been going from the 1500's so not a 20th Century thing at all do your homework

How much more ‘premium’ commercial space can the IOM accommodate in a recession?

Pubs really only started after the Beer Houses Act 1830. Ale houses were just front rooms in otherwise private houses before that. Of course pubs and what they sell and what entertainment they provide and the facilities have changed in 190 years.

Agreed, and not necessarily for the better. I still love the Albert and The Market in Douglas and miss The Foresters and I am not even 50.
