There are enormous shortages in hospitality at the moment and not even paying more will help - there just aren't the people, especially experienced ones who can be left in charge. If you've got several different venues, especially widely spaced, then even if they're all profitable, it may be easier to consolidate to the best-performing. Some of these closures are simply due to those running the business not wanting to burn out with long hours.

Not sure if ballacregga is continuing or not as no announcement And CalWin were only in Ballacregga since 3 December 2021, so 53 weeks 3 days. (nice ones please) Originally the Strand Cinema (37 Strand Street, Douglas IM1 2EF) : The cinema had been designated a Listed building and debates arose as to its future use. Eventually, it was decided to retain the Italianate facade, but demolish the remainder of the building. This happened in 1998 and a Littlewood’s store was built on the site of the auditorium, retaining the original facade as its entrance. It didn't stay as a Littlewoods for long as the group collapsed in 2005 and is now a TkMaxx. And warnings shown on screen at the Saturday matinées around bonfire night, not to throw bangers and squibs in the cinema.

Bangers and flip-flops surely (not the footwear). Though the message would have just referred to 'fireworks'. Always wise to sit upstairs at matinees (which from memory were in the afternoons).
