We found this with Rush Inn of Castletown. Their delivery service would also include card payment, little SumUp machines the driver would carry, so we would avail of it. Then they changed delivery to cash only and we simply stopped using them.

Most Chinese take aways use a touch screen ordering system, this will leave a trail for ITax or Vat to check up on??? So not getting away from tax avoidance???

Could be the Chinese community have a  system of cash to you and cash to the head of the 'CLAN'  to get the outlet in the first place so maybe not the outlet operator?

Either way, there are many ways for the tax authorities to estimate the turnover of a business!!!

Finally decided to try Barneys in Balasalla, parked up, went in and waited for a few mins, no staff to be seen.
whilst waiting notice sign saying cash only.
it’s 2023, of business are to thrive and succeed, then they need to first of all be there to serve and secondly accept card payments

No, yes they should be there to serve but they can decide their own method (s) of accepting payments.

I don’t know what’s wrong with people.

Just carry cash and cards to cover all eventualities. It really is quite simple. That’s what I do.

Maintaining a cash balance of say £50 in your pocket or handbag should suffice.

Its unlikely that any business anticipating a transaction of more than that wouldn’t have a card facility.

Not rocket science

t sells bakery products, you can't leave them on a shelf

Yes you can, as long as you are open for business, 4 hours????

...but if you are closed, then you won't have any product on display, maybe you do but most wouldn't????

I had to use touch screen technology to order a takeout for my grandchildren, my 12 year old grandchild did the transaction.  I still prefer cash.

Like the oft quoted example of HMRC counting the amount of peas on a plate.

I’m a bit concerned about these suggestions singling out a particular type of restaurant to perhaps being more prone to tax evasion.

Or those that don’t take cards.

You knew where you were with cheques.
